General information

Mimosa pudica is an annual shrub found throughout India. The name, Lajwanti means “Shyness”. When the compound leaves of the plant are touched they shrink back and become closed.

This property of lajwanti is partly attributed to high tannin content of leaves. In addition to tannins, Mimosa is also rich in the alkaloid mimosine. Lajwanti is an astringent herb that is traditionally used as a remedy for liver and parasite support.
